I was just looking in the crack manual and noticed the 2.49k resistor is listed as a .25w on the parts list and as a .125w on the circuit diagram.

Which is the correct value, also would a 2k4, 2k5 or even 2k7 resistor be a suitable replacement?

Cheers

Any of those values will work - 1/2W,1/4W, 1/8W power rating and anything around 2-4K ohms.

Thanks Doc.

Does anyone have any experience of fancy 'audiophile' resistors, can they be a worthwhile upgrade?

If so which ones to upgrade, the last pair on the headphone socket? Which type?

Cheers

Looks like that is the "Bleeder" resistor for eliminating any DC that might leak through the coupling cap.  The FP, Eros and Seduction have them too.  I wouldn't consider it an audio path resistor, so not anything to upgrade.  The volume pot and output cap, 100uF at 160V are in the audio path and is well worth upgrading.  I would also consider the third 220uF at 250V power supply capacitor as a good upgrade part.

Thanks Grainger, I've already ordered an Alps Blue pot and some Ansar Supersound polys for the coupling caps, I think that covers the stock signal path upgrade possibilities. I was just wondering if there was anything else to consider as the next part of my hotrodding experiment :).

Oh, and I have huge overspecced ps caps on order too :D

There are several threads on Crack upgrade parts in the Crack folder.  Looking at the schematic I don't know if there is anything else I would upgrade, but I would roll tubes for a year or two.

Indeed, I lucked out straight away by finding a Mullard CV4003 in grab bag of 3 valves for about
