I recently purchased both Crack and Speedball kits and am getting ready to build.

I have an old Radio Shack multimeter that works (for the most part). I decided to treat myself to a new multimeter for the project.

I purchased a Fluke 115 from Amazon, but started reading this forum a bit more after it arrived. I have seen the Fluke 117 and 87v as recommended meters.

My question is, before I open the Fluke 115, should I return it for another model? I went to the Fluke site, hoping for a nice model comparison chart, but didn't find any. I don't really see any problems or limitations with the 115 for Bottlehead type projects. The 117 has a temp probe and the 87v is rated to 1000v vs. 600 for the 115 or 117. I son't think I need the temp function.

I don't want to feel that I need to upgrade to a more featured meter a few months down the road, I'd rather spend my money on Bottlehead upgrades!

Thanks for your help - Jim

Looking at it, the presence of frequency and capacitance are a boon.  I don't know what the 117 or 87 have in comparison but the 115 looks good to me.  I don't know if you need anything greater than 600V for most kits.  Certainly not for a Bottlehead kit.

Thanks Grainger. I will probably keep the Fluke 115. It looks like what I need and I got it for a reasonable price. - Jim

I have used the 115 for some time now, and never had any problems with it.

Thanks - I think I'll keep the 115. Now to get started on my Crack!
