Title: Progress Report
Post by: Paul Birkeland on June 26, 2013, 02:59:50 PM
We have made some headway on the manual today, completing the photography for hardware mounting, input selection, and attenuator wiring (this is roughly a little more than the entire Submissive manual).

Josh is going to work on editing and layout tomorrow, and we shall resume the photography and writing thereafter.

(PS - check out the updated product shot with the final label overlay)

That looks very nice indeed. If it were mine I would blue or blacken the transformer cover...John

I'm having a hard time not snagging a panel and sending it to be anodized blue  8)

Looks great! And with those phone jacks in the front right corner (neutrik?) being switchable to RCA or balanced output, it also looks like an amazing option for a super-drive preamp. Congrats!

After nearly 20 years at this I am no longer dismayed when users post that they want to use our amp as a preamp, preamp as a headphone amp, a preamp in front of an integrated amp, etc. However I will point out that for about the same price the BeePre is the better preamp and the Mainline is the better headphone amp.

That overlay would look great in brown with cream letters, or perhaps copper with brown letters, give it a nice vintage patina. I don't suppose you guys are offering different options for extra $$?

Some day, I'd love one of these...

"I'm searching for my mainline ...  I couldn't hit it sidewise...

Uuh, just like sister ray says."

First thing I listened to on that amp.

While it may be possible to nab a different overlay, it could end up being very expensive and taking an unusual amount of time (when white isn't one of the colors, the lead time for material acquisition gets really high).

While the brown might be possible, I'm not sure how great a copper colored plastic would look.

One could possibly spray the stock overlay with a thin coat of paint and fill the lettering in by hand. Unfortunately at the current pace of one or two new product releases per month we don't have much time available to handle custom orders.

Thanks for the update and photo!  The production version looks amazing and no doubt sounds even better.  Really excited to be a part of the first wave this time around!

Was "Mainline" always intended as a VU reference? I'm surprised that I needed to be reminded.

As of today, the manual is very close to being completed in draft form.  Josh and I will still need to get together to gather the voltages and resistances, as well as to retake one photo that isn't quite correct (my fault, not his).

As we speak, the majority of the parts for the Mainline are either being manufactured or shipped to us, with our custom switches, graphic overlays, and power transformers being the bits that may take a little extra time getting here.

We look forward to shipping the first group of Mainlines shortly!

While Josh is busy at home working on the manual, I worked about 2/3 of the way through the packing preparations for the Mainline.  This actually included kitting nearly an entire kit, so the first mainline kit is basically primed and ready to go!

We will be receiving the majority of the missing parts tomorrow for the rest of the first run, and beyond that kit shipping will come down to just 3 parts that are either in production or in transit to us already.

At darn near 11:00 PM tonight, a draft copy of the manual appeared on our cloud file system.

We will be packing like crazy next week, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the graphic overlays, power transformers, and attenuator switches all roll in as expected.

No reason to worry Gary.  It's all good and the support on this forum can't be beat.

The manual is more or less finished. I caught a few typos today that I'll correct when I have 5 free minutes. Of the three things PB mentioned, one has arrived. PB forgot that we didn't have tubes. Those arrived today. There are over 100 different items in this kit; if one is out of stock, we can't ship. Kitting has started and these will start shipping as soon as we have every piece we need.

Gary, that is because you haven't been waiting for the Bottlehead DAC.  I'm just saying that we who have been here a long time know that the development of a Bottlehead product takes longer than ever estimated.  There are things which intervene in the process.

"Have faith my friend," (From Desert Pete, Kingston Trio) there will be a product and it will be worth the wait.

I was just curious as to whether the bottlehead crew might be able to provide us with a further update?  Have any of the outstanding parts come in since July 20?  Thanks!

Yes, the last of the parts we were waiting for shipped today, and should arrive tomorrow.

We had to find a new source for our laser cut/engraved acrylic plates that accompany the Mainline, BeeQuiet, and Submisive, as the vendor we were using appears to have retired.

The acrylic panels arrived this afternoon. So packing will begin on Monday. If you want that last Mainline we are offering at the pre-release price, the clock is running out...

Heck, I couldn't resist... Not sure if I got the last one or not, but order placed!

Thanks Chris! You did get that last one.  I'm gonna keep the pre-release price offer through tomorrow. It will take a bit more time to get the kits ordered after today as we are waiting for more panels to arrive for any future orders.

Hi Doc, should be shipping out the kits this week right? Can't wait that's for sure. My first Bottlehead kit! Please remind whoever is packing my kit to include the 220 / 240v transformer.  Shipment is going to Redwood Shores, CA.

Next up for me is a BeePre. But that,s a post for another forum.

Super excited, Dennis

Yes we will work on kitting the parts and I have quite a stack of panels to brush. The whole crew should be in Tuesday and that will probably be the packing and shipping throw down.

Doc B. is really the only one with the touch to properly brush the panels, especially the large ones!

Yes, Doc's degree is actually in Cosmetology. He makes those panels look real purdy, albeit with a hint of rouge...

Dammit, Paul got in there first! I was responding to John. Had to make that clear, otherwise people would think I was deep into my cups...  ;D

BTW, Doc: any chance we can get a video of the great man in action?  :)
