Hi Guys,

It's been a long time since my last post and project.  I just finished the last solder joints on the Eros and went through all the resistance checks.  There were a number of them that look off or wrong, so I'm looking for some help to get me pointed in the right direction.

All the voltage checks for the power supply looked good on the transformer.  The voltage checks on the VR board were good and all 4 LED's were lit.  Here's the resistance checks that I just measured.

I've attached the same as a Word document since the formatting for the cut/paste didn't work out.

Just retested everything and made a few measurement revisions (highlighted) for C tube socket on the attachment.

Just finished my Eros and had many similar readings to yours, i.e., slightly higher and the .621K.  Scroll down a couple posts to see my measurements.  I have no technical expertise at all - strictly follow Bottlehead directions - but I'd start by checking your solder attachments at Terminal 12, B3 and B6 and make sure everything is on the right terminal/pin and that nothing is touching.

Stay patient until the experts respond and don't plug her in until you get the resistances worked out. You will be extremely happy once you get your Eros up and running.  Good luck.

Just saw your latest measurements - you are getting closer  ::)

Thanks for the response Sugar Man. This is my fourth Bottlehead build...I took a few years off since my last.  So far this has been the most fun of all of them.

When I looked at your measurements, I thought I was looking at mine...the good ones! I reflowed Terminal 12, B3, and B6.  Nothing else looks obvious.  No changes in the resistance measurements.

I'll see if others chime in with some ideas too.  Thanks again.

OK, I started doing some continuity tests for some of the connections involved.  The black wire between T11 and T15 was no go.  I reflowed the solder at T11, pulled the black wire tight and EUREKA...all my bad readings came right in line!

Enough for today.  I'm going to do a fresh set of measurements tomorrow and report back.

Please post measurements as text in your posts. It is textual information and there is no need for attachments.

Personally, I will not open .doc files from the Internet due to macro viruses.

OK, will do.

The good news is that everything checks out now and the new Eros is singing in the background.  Huge difference over the Seduction in my system.  The 0.25mV Dynavector cartridge with the Seduction was just not enough gain for me and seemed to limit dynamics.

I think that Doc and company knocked it out of the park with this one!  Besides how great my system now sounds, I had my 16 year old son build some of the boards and do some of the wiring.  It was a lot of fun building this together.  If I can figure out some space issues in his room, he'll likely be the proud recipient of my old Seduction.  Now I just need to figure out a turntable for him.

Well done! Troubleshooting is almost always a matter of going back and making sure everything around a problem area is wired and soldered right. Sounds like you took a logical approach to sorting it out and it payed off.

I just put my Seduction back in the system to begin finishing my Eros base.  Dang, it sounds really good. Really balanced and musical. I had the same problem you did - not enough gain for my system.  I was thinking of selling it, but it's just too good.  Saving it for a second system.  Like all Bottlehead products, embarrassingly good for the money.

I have a old Dual turntable in my office with a HO Ortofon cartridge.  I may (somewhat reluctantly) put that in my son's room with the Seduction and an old "Son of Foreplay" on steroids.  I have a feeling that the higher output cartridge will be just the ticket as a match for the Seduction.  I don't think his in-ceiling speakers will cut it anymore.  It might be time for a new set of speakers for him.
