Title: Ht bypass modification to Foreplay III?
Post by: debk on April 07, 2010, 06:32:30 AM
I know that having an entirely separate 2ch system would be the best way to do this, but I don't have the space the way I have my HT set up.  So what I am thinking is to build a Foreplay III and add a home theater bypass to it.  I want to add another set of stereo inputs for the L and R front outputs from my pre/pro.
Instead of adding a 4th switch on the chassis, since space seem somewhat limited especially if i go with the extended Foreplay, I want to replace the two attenuators.  One of them with a stereo attenuator,(Goldpoint Mini-V stereo), and replace the other one with a selector switch (Goldpoint 4p-3T selector switch).
So I would take the output of the Foreplay, and the input from the pre/pro and use the added selector switch to switch between them.  This way I could hook both the HT pre/pro and the Foreplay III to the same amp and front speakers.

Would this work?  Do you think that this would degrade the sound quality at all, after all it is just a manual switch between two inputs?
What value would you use for the Goldpoint stereo attenuator?

I appreciate any input?

Thanks
Debra

You might PM member Xcortes.  He has his HT system all Bottlehead.

If you only need to use one set of outputs from the Foreplay, you could use the other as a pass through.  When you want to do 2 channel, just switch off the pre/pro combo, when you want to do HT, you could leave the FP-III on and muted, or shut it off.
