Uh oh! I checked the B socket and it measured an acceptable 6.25 V. After 10 minutes, I went to check the chassis. I unplugged the red probe from B2. I forgot I still had the black probe clipped on B7. As soon as I touched the red probe to terminal 21, there was a big spark at terminal 21! I'm unharmed but it really woke me up! Do you think I damaged the Moreplay?

Swapped out the bad resistor, everything checks as per the instructions EXCEPT 14 is reading 391 (vs. 170-230) and the LEDs for the right channel are still not illuminated.  I reflowed all the connections on the PC board for that channel, and I THINK they all look good (I watched Doc's video on the subject).  The board is looking kinda rough with all the work I did on it, maybe I just start over with a new board?  Or re-re-reflow connections and try again?

I will measure then. Thanks for your help!

Don't assume regarding time is to risky.
better measure it and be sure is less than 20V.

Yes, apparently. It was meant entirely as a poke at my own delusions. I was chuckling to myself that I found some insane new rabbit hole to go down. Apologies that it came across wrong.

Jeese Dan I did not suggest that they were the same compound. I really don't understand your somewhat contentious opening statement to my reply? Frankly It is no concern of mine what you do with the next 6 years of your life. I merely stated that the stuff looks similar. Am I misunderstanding you?

OK, I get it. If I wait 10 minutes, is that enough time for "the high voltage power supply will need several minutes to drain before you can move the clip leads"

General Discussion / Forum Email Issues

When we transitioned the company to our control earlier this month, we also changed email providers. One unintended consequence was that email notifications from the Forum have been disabled. This is a problem for a handful of reasons, like not being able to send activation emails or reset passwords. We're working on a fix for it, but I'm not sure when we'll have it solved.

If you have any questions or issues, feel free to reach out to us at info @ bottlehead.com (no spaces) and we'll do our best to help. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for bearing with us as we get things in order.

So you're saying that, if I dedicate the next 6 years to experimenting with various combinations of these ingredients to get it to work right, I just might come up with a product to sell to the three people who post here per year asking what to glue a loose tube base back on with.

Speaking of old tech I just found out that our neighbor across the parking lot had a 5000 sq. ft. facility that ground and polished aspherical lenses for the likes of Edmund Scientific. The main machines are rather archaic analog control pantographs that used precision machined metal patterns. He's retiring and selling off the machinery if anyone is interested in gigantic pantograph mills. Probably a good thing I don't have the space as he has some pretty cool machinery. I saw a pretty big and beautiful 1880s vintage gear driven lathe that sold very quickly.
