BeePre / Re: Mechanical Buzz from Power Transformer on BeePre2

I think it's worth mentioning here that some transformer noise isn't particularly abnormal.  I have gotten back a few PT-9 power transformers that were returned for noise issues and I can only hear noise if I'm very close to the transformer (so those transformers are currently running in my system).  We did have our winder revise the transformer design a while back to remedy an issue where there would be a loud buzzing audible from 6+ feet away, but so far that issue seems to be resolved.  Do also note that loose hardware on the power transformer can amplify an issue like this as well.

Perhaps I am misinterpreting something Paul- I will make a detailed exhibit with some marked up photos of the readings I am getting tonight, and hopefully that will assist in the diagnostic.

Thanks again,

Take your time, read instructions a few times and double check each step. Enjoy the build and listening.

Hi Bruce,
I am interested in if you had success with the replacement transformer? I have a Beepre2 running in my system purchased in September of last year and have experienced a very similar mechanical buzz to what you shared in your video. My Beepre2 is also stock with all upgrades.
Best,
Aaron

Just getting started on my Crack build!

Rustoleum metallic paint on the transformer bell, and main plate. Linseed oil on the wood pieces. Tomorrow the basic assembly begins!

OK, newly revamped website is beginning to come to life! E-commerce sites are very complex beasts these days. Please bear with us while we shake out a few bugs.

As you can see our maintenence is running a bit longer than we initially estimated. We are making substantial updates and having a challenge moving some data around.

Yea, seems a bit odd to me too as the unit just lived on my desk when the issue surfaced. Anyways, I'll order another 6080 to see if that solves my problem. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help Paul, I genuinely appreciate it.

I think it's a good idea just to rule that out.  There are some pieces inside a 6080 that can come dislodged and prevent one half from operating from a very hard jarring, but I've also dropped 6080s on the floor and continued to use them with no issues.  This kind of issue isn't what I would expect from a tube that's exhausted, it's more like some kind of internal damage.

Actually, I guess replacement RCA 6080's are cheaper than I thought. I might just eat the cost on one to have something to A/B test with here.
