Title: new build
Post by: bgf on November 20, 2010, 06:00:21 AM
hi,  just recieved my eros kit and was going over the resistors with my fluke 115 multimeter.  they all seemed to have pretty good tolerance except 220 ohm carbon composition resistors.  there range was 210.1 to 221.5.  is this an acceptable range.  thanks. brent

What is the "tolerance" band on the resistors in question?  Typically, carbon comps have a silver band for 10% or a gold band for 5%.  At 5%, you could be + or - 11 Ohms on a 220 Ohm resistor.

The other question, of course, regards the resistors' intended use in the circuit.  If they are being used as "grid-stoppers", there will be such an infinitesimally small amount of current going through, that it just won't matter much at all.

The 220 Carbon Composition (CC) resistors are lower tolerance than anything else in the kit.  I would expect +/- 10%.  But the value is not at all critical.  Doc and PJ have thrown around numbers from 100 ohms to 1000 ohms with no affect on the performance of the circuit.  So yours are fine.

These "Grid Stopper" resistors have been the subject of quite a few posts.  You can search Grid Stopper and see.
