General Discussion / Re: Tinnitus

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. It‘s been almost eight weeks now, and no relief. I saw an ENT, who prescribed prednisone for a week. I‘m tapering off now. No change. If anything, it‘s worse. I tried listening to a record yesterday, at low to moderate volume. It hurt. And afterwards the ringing increased.

Hang in there. Prednisone itself, especially at doses that require a taper, can make tinnitus worse (hopefully a temporary worsening, since pred is prescribed very often for tinnitus.) Prednisone, if you haven't taken it before, has other unpleasant side effects (for me, I get rage, feelings of doom, and insane hunger. Oh, and insomnia. Thank goodness I haven't gotten the tinnitus side effect from pred.)

If you aren't averse to Reddit, there is a subreddit for tinnitus that may be useful. Let me see if this forum will let me link Reddit...

Belden-1300SB is an STP cable with a drain wire.

The blue looks great, is that a variety of Illusion blue powder coating?

I think I would resolder the imp. switch joints and if it still does not work check for the proper connections to the output transformer on the offending side. There's a possibility that there may be a broken wire connected to the trans or switch. Just one old mans opinion.

Mainline / Right channel has no output in high impedance mode

Just finished the final voltage check, everything was solid so I did a listening test and found I have no output in the right channel when high impedance is selected.

I know the recommended advice would be to reheat every joint but in the hopes of not having to do every single one, is there somewhere I should start first given that this issue only affects the high impedance mode?

I would definitely recommend against shipping that.  I do believe that the cost and lead time on the Magnequest line output transformer was just enough to prevent the Soul Sister from going into production, but that was well before my time.

I don't see anything particularly concerning with these.

I've a friend who has been using a soul sister preamp for quite some time and is finally looking to try something different. He knows I'm a bottlehead fan and asked me to look into it. I couldn't find much about this - other than it was mostly offered as a plan and not commercialized, maybe due to transformer cost. I've shared a few photos from the pre and was wondering if anyone here would be interested in sharing some thoughts or advice I can pass along as they are planning to list it on the used market.
