Title: B Channel quiet after adding PJCCS Upgrade [resolved]
Post by: Audio Islander on August 16, 2016, 05:01:01 PM
After adding the PJCCS Upgrade the B channel is much quieter then the A channel.  If I unplug A channel I can increase the volume to acceptable volumes.  When A channel gets loud very quickly and only small movement of the POT makes it loud.

I reflowed joints on B channel and got same result.  I also swapped tubes, batteries, and input cable from A -> B and B->A.  All had the same result.

BTW I am a total newb at this...

Here are my voltage readings assuming I did it correct. I notice that in general B has higher Volt readings.

Since OB had a higher reading I took some additional readings on the PJCCS board.

I am new to this so not sure if I am going down the wrong path...

I notice that on the A MJW350 transistor in Q2 on the center "prong" (not sure what to call the three prongs) had different readings from the B transistor.  All other readings seemed to be the same on the board besides the output and these transistors.

Would the high voltage on the B channel cause the issue I am seeing?  And could I have a bad MJW350 transistor?

I have also verified that 2N2222 transistors have tabs facing K.

MJW350 transistor readings
A
-----
F - 33.4
C - 25.9
B - 32.7

B
----------
F - 33.1v
C - 33.0
B - 32.5

Hi,

Have you tried reflowing joints on the side with the low voltage?  (Havent had a chance to compare your voltages to the manual ti see if they are A or B).  Can you shoot a pic of your Quickie wiring as well and post?  I can compare to mine-maybe a mis-wire somewhere.  Thanks,

Dave

Thanks for the reply Dave.

I ended up going to Bottlehead HQ (I am local) and Doc helped resolve my issues.

Really nice people at Bottlehead!  Thanks Doc.

It is very nice being close to HQ!  Got to listen to their showroom and get even more excited about where my system can grow to ;D  Got to hear their all Bottlehead/custom setup with Digital, LP, and reel to reel.  Was really impressed!

Probably the Kaiju, it was very impressive.  It is MUCH bigger then it seems from the photos.   Was also cool to be able to see the start of the speaker project they are working on.  I am looking forward to seeing where that goes.

Oh cool.  I've been wondering about the Kaiju.  Did it have a lot of power?   What was the sound like?
