Title: Phono Leads 5pin Din DIY?
Post by: JamieMcC on November 03, 2016, 11:33:14 PM
Hey guys I was lucky to pick up a very minty Jelco 750L 12” Silver Melody tone arm recently for less than half price. However I need a 5pin to 2x RCA plus earth phono lead.

The Jelco has been silver wired right through including the detachable head shell so it would be nice to be able to take a similar spec phono lead out to the Eros. On having a look around at the commercial offerings available they are more than a little spendy for my liking and I think I could probably make something just as good or maybe even better myself for a little less dough with a few helpful pointers.

So looking for any pearls of wisdom you wouldn't mind sharing on making a DIY 5pin Din to RCA phono lead such as sheathing, shielding, cables size such as can you use a litzed tone arm wire with a baulker wound in etc.

Originally as there is also a second tone arm that needs rewiring my thinking was to purchase a long length of silver tonearm wire that I would cut to suit for both but I'm conscious I would need to add some shielding, sheathing, strain relief etc to the wire for the phono lead...is this doable or even make any sense to try?

So any pointers or advice welcome.

Thanks
Jamie

I once attempted this but gave up and bought a decent cable. Haven't changed it or looked back. Please keep us posted!
