Title: start up and shut down noises
Post by: DuaneWhitney on July 08, 2018, 04:53:38 PM
My mainline makes noise for a second or two on start up and shut down.  Is this something I should be concerned about, or is this normal?  I'm wondering if a muting delay would be beneficial.

This is very normal.  A muting relay would prevent you from hearing the noise, but may otherwise decrease reliability.

I have noticed when I change headphones while the amp is on I hear a low sound for 1-2 seconds at most which goes away. Seems like the amp is getting reset for the new device or load?

No, but rustling the chassis can stir up microphonics a little bit that will settle in a few seconds.

I know this is a Mainline thread, but related to that "chassis" upsetting thought I have both my mainline and crack about a foot away from my pc keyboard and with some tubes like the coke bottle
RCA 6AS7G's when I am typing while listening I can hear my keystrokes as a dull thump sound, if i change to a non coke bottle version built mucm more solid I dont get this sound at all.

No big deal, just be aware of what tubes bring to the table!!
