Title: WE 275A in the PreBee/BeePre 2?
Post by: Ivan303 on April 16, 2023, 05:42:17 AM
Found three NEW/NOS, ror sure sure the two in matching boxes with matching lot numbers have never seen a tube socket (hopefully they work).

WE 275A appears from the data sheet to be a 5V 2A3 (or very close?).

Have NO idea why I bought them but at one time way back in the day I had a DIY HIFI Supply 300B kit that could also use 2A3s with modification so maybe?

Sweet looking single-plate tube.

I've tried about everything.  WE 300B (Charlie Whitner's first go), EH Gold  which came with the kit, and even a low voltage/power version of the 300B (AV-8B) with blue glass made back in the day by Alesa Vaic of AVVT  fame.

All good/great sound, LOW distortion, ZERO noise, but...

Every upgrade reveals a bit more clarity and detail but that 'euphoric' tube sound is nowhere to be heard.

Still haven't done the stepped pot part of the last mod I bought as I really need a balanced pre.

These should work well provided you have the first upgrade installed.

Guessing so.  Completed the first half but not the stepped resistors part.
