Greetings all!

I have purchased a Pair o' Paramounts. I do not yet have the circuit diagram and a search has not answered this simple question (and I am impatient and want to order parts).

So - what is the recommended minimum voltage rating for upgrade caps for the parafeed, coupling caps? I assume 4 uF and 0.1 uF values will be fine, but the voltage rating is the question. I will default to 600+ V, but would appreciate inputs as that value will affect size, price, and cap-type options. Assume 300B option.

Thanks to all, and Cheers,
jim

The stock caps are 630v, and I do not recommend less than 600v for either cap. For the parafeed cap I'd really prefer 800v but we've never had any problems with a 600v rating so I'm probably just being a paranoid engineer. That said, I currently have 5uF 600v Auricaps in my personal Paramount 300Bs and I'm very happy with them.

The high voltage rating is necessary to protect the cap from transient voltages associated with turn-on and turn-off transients.

Just FYI, I have the 300B version, with V-cap (0.1uF, 600V) and Mundorf Silver/Oil (3.3uF, 1200V) upgrades. Despite the Mundorf 'lowish' temperature rating (55C) I have not had any issues after 2 years of service.

The 300B runs a lot cooler than the 2A3 version ...

I can't tell you what the sonic improvements were (it was too long ago) ... I think I posted in the old B'head forum.

HTH,  - Rick.

Paramount 300Bs (Sophia Princess mesh plates, Siemens & Halske NOS 12AT7s, V-Cap coupling and Mundorf Silver/Oil parafeed cap upgrades, nice!)
