I have my HD800s with the Mainline as amp and Ibasso DX90 line source.
I have as many others been struggling with glare in higher frequencies e.g. Cymbals and such.
I am on the waiting list for the Anax 3.0 mod
This article is interesting and Ive tried setting the EQ in my player according to the graph in the article. http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/big-sound-2015-bob-katz-eqing-headphones-harman-target-response#KcKd2q2cZTqoEDq0.97
The glare is more or less gone and it is definitely more listenable.
Any thoughts on EQing and this in particular?
The attached photo is from my DX90 EQ

So no one replies, no worries.
Today I did the Anaxilus mod v 2.0(I think)
with the how- to on Innerfidelity http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/diy-modification-sennheiser-hd-800-anaxilus-mod-page-2#uM0Mbf49eGXGUrLP.97
I am finally over the top happy with my Mainline HD800 combo.
I can even listen to Michael Jackson's Off the Wall now and it sounds great.
Ed: Oh, and I don't seem to have to bother with the EQ anymore. ;D

Interesting I have been curious about the Anaxilus Mod for a while. Having recently re-cabled the stock cable to xlr I decided to ordered the foam and felt to give the Anaxilus mod a try as well.

Hi Jamie!
Same here, I got an XLR cable from FAW (Forza Audioworks).
Did crosslistening between my unbalanced modified HD580s and balanced unmodified HD800s.
Cymbals and high notes around 6kHz were indeed very obvious and fatiguing on the HD800s doing the comparison.
Doing the mod, I stuck to 2 mm of foam(Creatology like material) and 2mm of polyester felt on top of that with doublesided sticky sheet in between, just like in the video and now it is really fantastic. The shape of the cutout fit very nicely over the metal ring and the back wall of the Phones.
I used black foam and felt and it looks like they came shipped like this.
You won't regret this.

Actually the problem with the HD800s is not in the speakers but the housing.
The Anax mod only takes care of that without coloring the music.
The Doc also has the mod I believe. Anyway it is a great fix

Yes I did the Anax mod a couple years ago. Works very well. It's reversible and it's so cheap and simple to do that I am puzzled why people often talk about it so long before simply trying it.

Life gets in the way ;)

You get any sleep, Jamie?
I built my Mainline bit by bit during sessions of insomnia after my second daughter was born:)

I had forgotten how little sleep you can get by on during those first couple of weeks, its considerably better now almost in a routine.

Good to hear.
And good luck with the mod.
It really takes just 20 minutes and then it even looks good.

So finally got round to fitting the Anax mod this evening... ;)

Well done!
I'm sure You won't regret it.
Enjoy!
