Title: Random Static Noise in one channel [resolved]
Post by: hpleung on September 10, 2022, 12:00:46 PM
Hi,

I completed the Kaiju months ago and it worked fine. It is also regularly used - like daily. Recently, I detected a static noise coming from the right channel. I narrowed it down to the amp; that is it is not the speaker or speaker connection.

I am planning to go and retouch / re-solder every connection in the right channel. Are there any better suggestion?

Thanks.

I would suggest plugging in a cheap disposable speaker with the amp running on your workbench and poke around with a wooden chopstick.  You should be able to activate the noise by poking the part of the circuit that's problematic.

As always it's also a good idea to swap tubes between channels just to be sure that's not a contributing factor, and sometimes unplugging and plugging back in tubes will scrape oxidation off the pins (especially on 9 pin tubes).

What did you end up finding?

I simply redid the solders and it seems to have fixed it.
