General Discussion / Re: Tinnitus

That's horrible.  I've suffered from moderate tinnitus most of my life, but what you describe sounds unimaginable even to me.  I am so sorry.  I know from personal experience how devastating it is to go to an ENT and have him or her offer only what I call the "physician's shrug."

You've probably already done this but, if not, seek out the various tinnitus user forums on the web.  You'll find not just sympathy but empathy, a community that won't make you feel so alone.

Sublime Subwoofer Amplifier kit / Re: Shielded twisted pair cable

It's not CAT5, it's a single pair - solid core STP cable. Contact Eileen at [email protected] on Monday and she can fix you up with more.

You probably could just use any CAT5 ethernet cable, if you have some laying around...

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. It‘s been almost eight weeks now, and no relief. I saw an ENT, who prescribed prednisone for a week. I‘m tapering off now. No change. If anything, it‘s worse. I tried listening to a record yesterday, at low to moderate volume. It hurt. And afterwards the ringing increased. If it goes on like this, it will definitely be a curse of sorts. There‘s certainly no point in having nice-sounding equipment if I can‘t appreciate it, let alone turn it on. I‘m troubled by how quickly this happened, and how dramatic the change. If this is the new normal, my life will have to change dramatically—and in a bad way.

I hope this link works. It is Belden 1300sb 24 awg 4p Cat5e shipboard shielded twisted pair cable
It is the solid core, 4 pair Cat5e cable I think you are looking for.
Solid core Cat5e cables are also called "backbone" cables and are commonly selected when used in applications where minimum handling is expected, like inside walls.  Solid core wire is more susceptible to internal breakage upon repeated handling compared to stranded wire.

BeePre / Re: Shushing Sound from preamp
« Last post by Doc B. on Yesterday at 10:13:24 AM »
Perhaps I misunderstand this, but if it only happens when listening to LPs it seems most likely that the issue is coming from somewhere in the turntable/phono stage part of the signal chain, ahead of the BeePre.

BeePre / Shushing Sound from preamp
« Last post by rockpassion on May 16, 2024, 03:13:36 PM »
I have an on and off again shushing sound which comes and goes.  It does not appear to be volume related.  Also, it takes about 15 - 20 minutes to begin.  I  thought it had to do with 300b sockets so i cleaned them with deoxit and the shushing sound goes away for awhile.  However, when I manually wiggle the tubes the shushing (sounds like tube rush) does not increase or  decrease.  This also only happens  when I listen to LP's.  I have switched IC"s around but it does not stop or alter the noise.  I cannot hear it when the music is playing.

Any thoughts on how i might isolate this to figure out what is causing this.?

Thanks

Richard

Cool artistic photo. I like the shadow outline on the wall behind the gear.

Mark this issue resolved! Thanks Thermionclife. A small dab of solder was bridging input post and shell. Those Sowters are singing in stereo now.
