Title: Placement of the Kaiju power amp relative vinyl record player on a rack
Post by: alejon on July 28, 2017, 09:32:39 AM
Hi guys,
I am about to build a rack (shelf) to place Kaiju, Eros and Crack on it (and some other stuff as well). Space is an issue, unfortunately.
What is the general recommendation for placement of tube amps with regard to vinyl record player (with LOMC pickup)?
The far the better? Is it so simple? How far is good enough?
I am thinking mostly of electromagnetic field by the power transformer and a feedback by the output transformers.
Many thanks in advance for your replies!
Best regards,
alejon

The biggest concern will be when you have step-up transformers for your LOMC.  The Eros power transformer is designed for very low magnetic radiation, but the Kaiju and the Crack are a bit higher.  Ultimately, be prepared to be flexible and move things around!

You used the term "shelf," so do you mean one long piece, or is it more of a rack where you are stacking things?

If it's one long piece, just go left to right
table > phono > linestage > poweramp
This works well since cables come of the right side of the table, and routing to the right means that you're not going across the table's motor/power supply. The setup of the Eros jacks also enables a left to right passing. The general rule is keep signal cables away from power cables and power transformers. The lower the signal level passing through the cable, the more important this is.

If it's a stack, then things get a little trickier, but the same principles apply.

Hi all, thanks for your replies!

I was planning this as a four-level shelf (rack?), about three feet wide and about two and a half feet tall.

The record player is wall-mounted on the Target shelf at a height of about three feet.

So perhaps I will sacrifice on level, making it to three, not four, to place the Kaiju on the bottom shelf and Eros on the top shelf.

Anyhow, I will first make a temporary flexible arrangement just to see how things work out before making it more permanent.

Great thanks for your advises!
