Title: Doing final resistance checks, only terminal 22 incorrect [resolved]
Post by: Ztrains on August 15, 2017, 07:32:31 PM
Terminal 22 is my only one that is incorrect. It measure anywhere from 9-25 ohms. I have the nuts all in there on the transformer and tightened the screws, both things I saw when I did a search for the same problem. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

What does the manual say terminal 22 should read?

The manual says it should read 0 Ohms

Common causes for this would be an incorrectly mounted transformer, incorrectly installed part(s), or a misread meter (particularly a meter showing a decimal point, meaning fractional ohm being displayed and misinterpreted)

Can you post pictures?

I didn't know what you wanted to see so I took a few around the transformer. I know it's not the meter being read incorrectly, I double checked. Here are the images:

Your meter appears to be manual ranging. What range are you using?

Assuming your test results are valid, we need to find where your ground is failing:

Place one probe on the safety ground tab next to the power inlet and the other on terminal 22. Measure that resistance and post it.

Place one probe on the safety ground tab next to the power inlet and the other on terminal 3. Measure that resistance and post it.

I just tested it all again and now I'm getting 0 Ohms at terminal 22 as expected. For the two things you asked for, I'm also getting 0 Ohms. My voltmeter is in the 0-200 range

Alright, then you were probably just not making firm contact on one or both terminals with your probes, causing an error with your reading.

You have now had multiple issues with properly using your meter. In resistance checks, you have the built in safety of not testing live voltages. Your next step will not have that safety net.

In your case, I absolutely cannot recommend proceeding with your voltage checks unless you are using a clip lead on your ground connection. You should also not do the test unless you have someone else there in case you get into trouble.
