Title: Random Crackling Hissing that comes and goes.
Post by: hunkichunki on September 24, 2017, 12:51:31 AM
Hi guys, just want to reach out and ask if anyone has this very odd behaviour on the Crack.

Most times, I would turn it on and use it, sometimes for hours with no issues.
But sometimes, at random times, it would go into a short fit of crackling and hissing, then it would clear up and it would play normally again.

The Crack is in the same spot on my desk all these times, I don't move it or shake it in any way.

thanks! ;)

This sounds a lot like a solder joint that isn't quite 100% that conducts OK most of the time, but is causing intermittent noise.  Sometimes this can also happen with very oxidized tube pins as well.

One way to investigate this further is to get a wood chopstick and run the amp upside down with an inexpensive pair of headphones plugged in.  You can poke around in the amplifier to try to produce the noise, and once you've figured out what solder joint produces the noise, you know what needs to be touched up.
