Title: Possible confusion with SEX 3.0 C4S board
Post by: JeffYoung on October 25, 2017, 05:40:35 AM
I note on the board that the thicker line for the MJE5731A denotes the printed side of the transistor (as explained in the manual).

But on most boards, doesn't the thick line represent the tab (ie: the back)?

I checked the traces on the board, and it does appear that the manual is correct, but the silkscreen may be confusing for some.

(I also found one error in the manual: the parts list heading is "Speedball 1.1".)

Cheers,
Jeff.

The board is designed for use in different applications with different components in that position. Some face one way, some the other depending upon the pinout of the particular device. The important thing is that you put the part in the way that is specified in the manual.

Ahh... makes sense.

Another possible manual issue:

The resistance check section says the * values should be in the 10s or 100s of K or higher.  That's not true for H2, H4, H5 and H7, right?  I get about 212R for them, and looking at the schematic that seems about right as the 0V references are 220R.

Cheers,
Jeff.

From the manual:

What you want to watch out for is a zero reading at one of these terminals,
which would indicate that something is mis-wired.

Yes, I know, but I'm nothing if not pedantic.  8)

I'll take that as having passed my resistance tests.
