Title: What DIY kit is recommended?
Post by: robertod on February 10, 2019, 12:19:40 PM
I would like to replace my Audio Note M1 phone pre-amplifier.I currently have Wright Sound 2A3's, Rega Turntable Planar 3 with Exact cartridge, and Straight 8 speakers.
Thanks.

The Exact cartridge has a high output level and either our Reduction or Eros 2 phono preamp would work for you. Eros is a bit more refined and resolving if budget allows, but the two preamps have a similar tonal balance.

Thanks for the information Doc.  the preamps have controls for volume and balance?

They are phono preamps only. You would need a separate control preamp like the BeePre for level and balance control.

Just looked at products page. That would be a great addition to my system.  I remember the Smash DHT Preamplifier Kit was out there, nice unit.
The straight 8's are great sound better than ever since they were first used.

How does the smash with upgrade match up with Eros 2 phono?

It would be a very good pairing. Smash has been retired, so the best choice right now is the BeePre - which in my opinion is an even better combination with Eros2.

Thank you for your information and recommendation.  I was curious about the smash, in case I find one for sale.
