Title: Banded and un-banded leads

I've seen this come up in the instructions and I don't know what it means. The leads on my LED strips look identical all the way around.

It's not on the lead itself, but on the LED.  There is a metal band on one side of the LED.

The side with the silver stripe on the red plastic is the banded end.
