Title: Audionote pot l/r issues
Post by: Petricore on March 21, 2019, 12:28:39 PM
Hey guys, long time crack addict here. I've had my crack for about 9 years. It's been good to me over the years so I've been upgrading incrementally. It has the speedball and upgraded tubes.

I just installed a new audionote 100k pot with volume adjust resister mod. After getting done i was testing and i don't get any audio from my right channel until the pot clicks at about half, then the right channel kicks on. The left is on all the time.

I'm installing the upgrade to fix my high volume issue and the channel volume imbalance. Any help appreciated!

I can upload pictures if helpful, i took before and after pictures.

I don't suppose you may have bought a balance pot by accident?

Just looked at my invoice and it says audionote 100k stereo balance pot, so it appears so. I wasnt even aware that was different. It was the only audio note 100k pot i could find.

I guess i need to figure out another pot now. Thanks for your quick help!

I put the AN volume and balance pots in my SEX 2.1, they wire up different than the stock pots. Paul drew a wiring diagram that worked. Search the SEX posts, it may be what you need.

It's in the technical topics, page 2.

Thanks!

I'm thinking I'll upgrade to a goldpoint 24v (not sure if preinstalled or not).... and I thought about a couple more questions.

Is the wiring the same on the goldpoints? I tried searching and didn't see mention of it yet.

One of the original things I wanted to fix was the super loud volume knob, if I go with a goldpoint, do I still need to install the same resistors to get the volume reduction effect?

Why not add the resistors to the stock pot?

Well a couple reasons. One I wanted to actually hear for myself if changing the stock Pot was worth the upgrade and two in order to save cable lengths and having to restrip things, I cut the lugs off the old pot. I know I could modge it together in the other holes that are there, but its a tight fit as is.

I was actually initially going to just do the resistor mod on the stock pot, until I got to reading the threads here about pot upgrades.

It's a slippery slope!

What do you think started my audio black hole 10 years ago :P Its sad, but the crack has been the least upgraded/modified piece of equipment I own, and I use it every day at work... haha.

I think I'd go with an audionote 100K stereo pot if I could find one, but I only see balance pots available.

If you need to spend a lot of money on a pot, you can get the TKD.

I wouldn't say _need_ to spend money, but I am looking at my end game headphones + amp and I realized I never finished modding my crack. So I want to see where I land with it before making my end game (will stay at home) setup.

I considered a crack-a-two, but I might also be having someone build an amp...

Anyhow, the idea behind the audionote was to find the not-cheapest-upgrade, but not most expensive.

I'm not sure I've read a lot about the TKD yet, just the audionote, blue alps, chinese ebay ones.

I considered a crack-a-two
That would be a good choice for an ultimate OTL headphone amp.  The attenuator upgrade is also quite convenient.

Parts Connexion (no affiliation) has both the AN Log (audio) and balance pots.
+1 on the BH "attenuator upgrade" that Paul mentioned.

Thanks for the heads up, last I looked they only had one, now I see them both. I'll give that a try.
