Hi all,
I bought an RCA 6AS7G tube and ran it for about 4 hours yesterday. I didn’t notice a difference in sound the way I did when I rolled in a (Made in GB) Mullard 12AU7, but I did notice that the chassis wasn’t as warm as when I run the 6080 tube that came with it. Is this typical?

You could measure the voltages in the amp with each tube to make a determination. (The voltages and whether or not you have a Speedball will quantify any heat difference)
Overall this is pretty atypical. I would actually expect the 12AU7 to make a bit more of a difference in terms of how much heat is generated inside the chassis.

Thanks Paul! I’ll keep that in mind. I’m still “braining in†the stock Crack before I add the speedball. The 6AS7G is a taller tube and I thought that might have something to do with the heat that is generated/dispersed at the base.
