Title: Using 8 ohm speakers with S.E.X. at 4 ohm setting?
Post by: ScottAstroNut on April 12, 2020, 09:48:14 AM
Pardon another newbie question, but when assembling my S.E.X. I wired the transformer for 4 ohms, as suggested in the manual for use with headphones. I am very pleased with the performance of the S.E.X. with headphones at this setting. However, I would like to at least try using the amp with efficient 8 ohm speakers, just to see what the amp can do. Do I need to change the wiring on the transformer in this case, or am I good to go as is?

Thanks!

You are good to go. Triode amps are very happy with higher-impedance loads.

If you re-wire for 8 ohms, you would get little more power, but not much - less than 3dB, audible but not blatant.
