Title: Band on the Run!
Post by: ironbut on November 07, 2010, 08:10:41 AM
Hmm, I can't really say that I was a huge fan of Wings. They were something of a hit machine and for the most part, sounded like one. But, as part of the Beatles legacy, my opinion of them  has softened over the years.
Well, on Thursday I got an email from HD tracks (as I'm sure many of us did) announcing a hi rez (96/24) version of the album. I've been hoping that a hi rez version of the Beatles collection would be available eventually, so I figured, what the heck, this should be ok in the meantime.
When I went to buy it, I found that there are two versions. One which is like the original version and another which is not compressed. Obviously, I bought the un-compressed version.
I have to say that it sounds fantastic! There are also 9 bonus tracks which includes many versions of songs which were done live in Abby Road Studios for the never released tv called "One Hand Clapping". Those are excellent also and very different in performance, vibe and the sound of the studio acoustic is wonderful.
Well, as you can tell, I highly recommend downloading it. Even Bob Ludwig used it as an example in a lecture I saw this weekend at AES.

One of my friends sent me this link about a month ago, right after he bought a few of the new Beatles remasters.

It's got 320kbps mp3 and 24bit FLAC versions of the entire catalog, and it's a cool looking jump-drive.

Steve,

Thanks for letting us know.  I have been of the same mind re: Wings, but was tempted by the availability of the uncompressed version, so I may just give this a try, especially for the extra tracks.
