Title: Fix bevel on wood base
Post by: denti alligator on March 26, 2021, 11:49:21 AM
So I have two Crack-sized bases, one of which I wanted to fix up and make match my other bases (Danish oil). I failed with one, which I mussed have stained with something strange at some point, because I couldn’t get the oil to go only evenly—splotches everywhere. The second was painted, so I heat-gunned and stripped it and then sanded it down. Looks great. Problem is I sanded a bit too much on top and ruined the bevel, which is now too shallow and on one side hardly existent. I know nothing of woodwork. Is there a relatively easy way to re-bevel this without spending too much money on tools? If not, I guess I’ll order another base set. Thanks.

Sam.
The rabbet, (bevel), is pretty easy to fix with a table saw or router, but it sounds like there are other issues as well.  I guess the Private Messages function is down, or I have not been able to find it for quite awhile.  But, any way, I may have a couple of new sets that have never been glued up.  I am still sorting through "stuff" in storage from our relocation. My email address is [email protected] if you are interested and I will check.  They would be yours for the cost of postage.

Cheers,
Geary

Click on the person's username - then under their avatar you can find the PM link.

Thanks PJ,
I have tried that again, and several times in the past. No joy!

Hmmm... you're right, something is going on. I tried to PM you, and everything went right until I sent it. Then I got this message:

"User 'galyons' can not receive personal messages."

So the blockage seems to be bilateral.

Just had a look and I don't see anything in the admin controls that I can switch on or off globally regarding PMs. I will suggest each of you check your profile settings to be sure you can receive PMs. If it is a global problem it will have to wait, as our IT guy is out of the game for a bit.

Doc, I cannot see anything, anywhere in my profile regarding PM's.  There is for emails from members and messages/notifications for folks on my Buddy/Ignore list, (which is empty).  Unlike PJ, I can no longer find any access to send a PM. I have no message center, so no inbox or sent messages cache.

It has been like this for awhile.  If it is an issue with my account profile/settings, I surely cannot find it!

Cheers,
Geary

Should be a menu choice for personal messages between notifications and buddies/ignore list in your modify profile menu. I have it in my profile menu. Does anyone else see the personal messages choice in their profile/modify profile menu? I'll check to see if there is something switched off somewhere.

OK, I think I may have found the switch to turn on PMs. If a couple of you could try to PM each other and report the result that would be great. I am not set up to receive PMs here (I already get buried with emails, FB PMs, IG PMs, etc), so don't try to PM me.
