Title: Help with CD player
Post by: aragorn723 on May 19, 2021, 04:19:26 PM
Can someone help me with finding a good resource for cleaning the laser lens on a Rotel single disc CD player?  I've had it for years and haven't serviced it yet.  As of right now, it won't read any discs.  Figured someone here can point me to a reputable information source.  I understand the laser lens is very delicate.

I’m not sure if this interests you or not, but there are some very high-quality YouTube instructional videos that you might find helpful if you wanted to try to tackle it yourself.

I'm sure there are newer/better tools/methods but my go-to is an ancient setup disc that has a couple of fine brushes. It still seems to do the trick at keeping dust build-up from blocking the lens. It has channel and polarity checks that I find helpful whenever I wire up a system. There are even some well recorded music tracks that can show off different aspects of your system. I think it is called the LLC-3, from before that acronym became universal in business.

Thanks for the replies.  I opened it up, and gently blew on the laser.  Probably just a tiny bit of dust.  Works perfectly now.  Guess I underestimated the KISS method 😋. Lol.

Glad you got it cleaned.  My preferred method for cleaning things almost always involves disassembly and a manual cleaning.

Yup, very gratifying when that works.  I like your signature "there are always user serviceable parts inside" LOL.
