Title: Eros 2 joins the family
Post by: debk on May 29, 2021, 10:13:26 AM
Completed my Eros 2 with Sowter SUTs.  Sounds very nice! Happy with it.  does it sound different than my old Eros?  I feel it is a little warmer than than my original Eros, but that is probably secondary to the choice of SUT.  Originally I used a Bob's device Cinemag Sky 30 SUT.  To try something different I got a pair of Sowter 1990's and set them up as 1:20.  I don't know if it is the fact that I have them built into the Eros 2 instead of as an external device, but I prefer the sound of the Sowter to the Cinemag.  Seems smoother to me, and yes I listened to the Eros 2 with out the Sowter's, using the external Bob's devices first.  whatever the reason I really like the sound of the Sowter's, and it is nice not to have an external SUT.

I also tried a NOS 12BH7 instead of the 12AU7 tube and it worked fine but I could not really tell any difference between the two

Looks great! And yeah, the Sowters are a really good setup. PB brought over an Eros2 prototype with them installed and we compared with my super rare (like only a couple pairs made I think) Peerless 20-20 style mic transformers that Mike LeFevre made many years ago. Those MQ prototype transformers are really special and have stayed in my setup for a lot of years. But when I finally get around to replacing my personal Eros I that loaned to a reviewer a couple years ago - never to see again - that new Eros2 will have the Sowters installed.

Very nice indeed.
Is that a BH power cord?
