Title: Aluminum Plate?

I was wondering what kind of aluminum the plates are made out of. I'm doing some design projects of my own and I was thinking about using a similar construction to what was used in the S.E.X. kit.

Any suggestions from pros on ways to put together some prototype electronics that use point-to-point wiring?
