Title: Swapping power tubes on Crack has whine in right channel
Post by: computerman on April 05, 2023, 09:40:39 AM
I have built a Bottlehead Crack with Speedball.

When I use the GE 6080 that shipped with it, it works flawlessly.

I bought an RCA 6AS7G from tubedepot.com and it looked clean; the box certainly wasn't. This is supposedly a "known to work" from the tube-rolling forum.https://forum.bottlehead.com/index.php?topic=663.0 (https://forum.bottlehead.com/index.php?topic=663.0).

I get a whine only in the right-channel when I use this tube. I've reseated it a few times to no avail. I roll back to the GE and the whine goes away.

This whine is not affected by volume levels.

Is this a bad tube, or is it "just so much better" than the GE that it is showing a bad solder joint, and therefore I should reflow all my connections?

Sounds lika a bad tube. but it shouldn't hurt to leave it on for a few more days.If still no good try to get your money back.

Try cleaning the pins.
