I know this has happened to many posters, Jim Rebman and Paul Joppa just to name two. I don't think I have experienced it. Sometimes when typing on my wife's laptop I touch the touch pad and end up on a page I didn't mean to go to. This loses my post before posting. That is frustrating.
But I have not experienced hitting the post button and losing everything I typed. Could this be associated with the browser? I'm using Firefox, recommended by other Bottheheads and I have never used IE again.
Anyone who has experienced this please post and let's see if we can figure this out. I know from using this laptop how frustrating losing a bunch of typing can be.

Grainger,
Actually, I believe it is something in the SMF software. Audio Circle uses the same BBS system and a couple of years ago it used to arm you that somebody else was posting at the same time and then gave youu the option to try again. It seems they have either disabled that feature, or perhaps it no longer works in the latest builds of the forum software. It happens on AC too, and I've had it happen with both FF and IE.

I have been warned many times that someone else has posted while I was typing. It has always gone through.

Well, maybe I'm just not seeing the pop-up boxes, which is entirely possible.

That made me smile. I'm assuming, dangerous stuff here, that you have a braille keyboard. I wouldn't know of such a thing unless I had watched Covert Affairs on TV.

Actually, it's more a problem with the pop-up blocker functions in the latest version of the browsers -- some sites work fine, others don't. I've played around with this more than I care to anymore, and somethings (like notices of pending PMs) work fine, and others don't.
As for keyboards, no, just use a normal one -- actually switch between several depending on which machine I'm using -- as I'm not a braille typist by any stretch of the imagination. I know braille and can write it, type it, and read it, but as I only started learning this stuff in my mid-30s, I'm dreadfully slow at it, and really only use it for labelling, and even then, nowhere as much as I could or should.

I can't remember if it is a popup or a new page that appears before posting. I'm using FF popup blocker. I would have it disabled for Bottlehead so it is hard for me to say for sure.

My most frequent problem has been that I missed the notification about someone else having posted. It appears in red against the black background, on a fairly busy page. Whenever it happens I'm more attentive - for a few months - and have no more problem. Then I forget to check until it bites me again!
Often enough, it's a really long-winded post that gets lost, and having clarified my thoughts writing it, I can summarize in another much shorter post - a net improvement. :^)

When someone else posts before you hit the Post button, your reply page reloads with a small header at the top that says someone else has posted.
"Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post. "
It's a not a separate pop up box. I don't understand how a post gets lost because of this. If you hit the Post button again after this header comes up (I should think that would be the most logical reflex) the post gets posted. In fact PJ's post came in while I was working on this post and I got the message. As you can see it posted just fine. I will suggest that there may be something else going on. Perhaps it has to do with the preview function, as it seems that the members who tend to have longer posts that may be edited quite a bit before posting are experiencing the problem.

I'm pretty fuzzy but I guess I hit the Post at the second page. I really haven't had this problem but so many others have I wanted to ask what was happening.

I've never experienced the problem, but I tend to preview before I post.

That may be a factor. The "preview" allows editing and posting options that can't be done in the Quick Reply box.
