Title: Loss of R channel post Sowter 1990 SUT [resolved]
Post by: Brooklynbottle on May 15, 2024, 05:59:49 PM
Not being one to leave well enough alone, I've managed to loose my R channel post SUT installation. I'm using the Sowter 1990 w/ a Hanah SL cart.
I double checked function w/ the original MM cart (which worked fine prior to my "improvement").
If I crank the volume on my amp, I get the expected hum in both channels.
No signal from the right channel of the phono w/ either cart.
Switched e86's, no dice.
I carefully followed the directions for Sowter installation as posted.
Left channel sounds great.
I'm in uncharted territory here as far as diagnostics go.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think I would check for a solder bridge between the center post and the shell of the input connector. Posting pictures can be helpful.

Thanks. I'll double check and post a photo if things don't improve.
That solder job was a bit messy w/ the multi strand Sowter wire.
Appreciate the insight!

Mark this issue resolved! Thanks Thermionclife. A small dab of solder was bridging input post and shell. Those Sowters are singing in stereo now.
