Title: R1 on DC Filament Board [resolved]
Post by: KenSW on April 03, 2025, 06:27:17 PM
The first step for the board calls for: “ Insert the leads of a 1KΩ ½W (brown, black, black, brown, brown) resistor into the positions marked R1 on both sides of the board.” The photo depicts a blue resistor sized appropriately for the board pads. The resistors in my kit (shipped 3/13/25) are brown and sized more like a 2W package, are much larger than the board print, and require an inverted bend of the leads which still leaves the resistor body proud of the board. Does it matter that these are likely carbon with higher 5% tolerances and higher wattage  rather than the depicted metal film with +/-1% lower wattage?
Thanks,
Ken

I believe they are Vishay CMF metal film resistors.  What value do you measure when you measure them with your meter?  Yes, they can sit above the board a bit with no ill consequences.

You’re right, one is 1001 and the other is 1005 so both <1%. Thank you for the clarity and rapid response!
