Title: Bigger caps with the MU
Post by: Mucker on May 08, 2025, 03:34:41 PM
The Upgrade was installed to my Moreplay yesterday and there is no question that audio quality has improved in my system. There does seem to be a slight increase in detail and clarity along with darker background and dead silence, which is surprising because the stock configuration is excellent. I've never been disappointed with any Bottlehead upgrades, especially when it deals with power supply improvements. Better DC heating and cleaner high voltage supply, what's not to like. Thank you Bottlehead for making this upgrade possible!

Because I like to F.A.F.O., my Moreplay has sort of turned into a test bed. One of the changes was to replace the output caps. I opted for Jantzen Supeior Z which have been running in the pre-amp nearly since I built it. Because the upgrade eliminates terminals 1 and 11, they became perfect spots to mount the caps. So, I now have the caps bridged between T1U - T6U and T11U - T16U. The existing and abandoned red wire between T1 and T11 had to be clipped away from those terminals. The right signal from the volume control was routed to T1. The left signal from the volume control was routed to T11. The Jantzens are about the perfect size and match up with the terminal mount points nicely. I also had a 2.2uF Mundorf cap sitting unused in a box so replaced the small film cap on the pcb with it.

I am also currently using only one set of inputs and wired them directly to the sockets. I opted to use 100K resistors at the sockets because I don't use the balance or volume pots but instead use a stepped attenuator which works perfectly. The grounds from the attenuator go to T2U and T12U. Anyway, there were quite a bit of changes performed but I am very pleased with what this Moreplay has morphed into and it is a perfect match with my Stereomour II Once again thank you!
