The MD/VA/DC/DE/PA/NJ Bottleneck Linestage Competition is supposed to happen on April 2. The competition is to build a line stage under $100 that uses Russian tubes. This time, the chassis needs to come from Target. The rules are at the link below.

We are trying to determine how many entries there will be. Please post your intent by March 19 (enter or attend). Right now there are only two entries which doesn't make it much of a competition. Also, please indicate if you would be willing to participate if you had more time. We can always delay the competition but still meet on April 2.

I will be bringing two entries. I've done a bit of a writeup on the one that is more or less finished which you can read at

Those who know my building efforts will not be surprised to know that when I turn it right way up, it stops working in one channel after a few minutes. Of course it runs fine all day when it is inverted with the guts showing. It will be fun tracking down the problem. I'll have to put it on a hoist so I can get to it from underneath.

I still plan on comming, though I have not had a chance yet to build the line stage. Hope to finish it this weekend.
If you plan on delaying the contest please let me know. I would not like to drive 7 hours to find out it was cancelled.

Right now there are 3 official entries including yours. In addition, I have a completely stock, Foreplay I ($99 version) that I plan on inserting to see how it compares. I would also like to throw in my Lightspeed Attenuator as an "alternative" entry, so that makes 5. It would be nice to have at least 5 "official" entries, but three will still be interesting.
By the way, I'm still getting my linestage together, so there is still time folks!

I expect to have my battery powered version working by the end of the week. Just need to wire it up now and see what happens.

I'm planning on attending, I don't have an entry, but I can bring the 76 preamp that we used in the first round of the 6V6 competition if anyone is interested.
-
By the way, when I ordered my tubes from Sovcom, I received more of some tubes than I can ever use. If you think you could use an existing power supply and would like to use a 6N6P or 1J24B to enter the competition, let me know and I will send what you need.
I'm keeping the 6S17K extras. The more I hear of this tube, the more I like it.

One week until the competition. The even will be held on April 2 in Reston, VA (not too far from Sterling, VA where Steve hosted last year). Setup time will be around 10:00 AM and we will begin official listening around 11:00AM.
If you would like directions, please send me a private message and I will send you the address.
Hope to see you there.
