Is/has anyone run a Pavane 12AT7 in their Stereomour or Paramour? I am considering trying one in place of my JJ ECC81. I like the JJ just fine but I have heard good things about the Pavane.
Thanks,
Ed

If you don't have to break the bank by buying them, go for it and report back to us. That's the beauty of tube rolling.
Bernie.

I have an email into them t see if they will sell me one, they typically sell pairs.
You are right about tube rolling, especially with the Stereomour since there are only 3 tubes. Two of which I will likely be sticking with, I really love the JJ 2a3-40s. The only reason I can see changing those would be for 45s, unless of course I came across a great deal on some mesh plates, I wouldn't mind hearing those.

Ed,
I believe they only sell those in matched pairs or quads. If you want, I'd go in half with with you and buy one of the two for my Stereomour. Let me know if you are interested.....

Thanks John, much appreciated. Rachel (Grant Fidelity) returned my email, they will sell a single, it is $57 shipped to me, I believe that is $50 + $7 shipping. They are at a California show right now and won't be able to ship until the 22nd.

Always happy to try to help out, Ed....glad they agreed to sell you the single tube. Post up if I need to buy one, too!

FWIW, I'm running a pair in a non-Bottlehead amp ( Tubelab SimplePP EL84) - in which they replaced a pair of ECG Sylvania 12AT7. I actually got them as part of a lot buy including EL84 and Shuguang 6CA7 for a different amp - and while some folks haven't cared for any of these particular tubes, AFAIC they were all worth every penny paid.

Thanks Chris, I will be ordering one as soon as the good folks at Grant Fidelity return from CA later this week.

I have had the psvane 12au7 in my foreplay III. I am very happy with them. I like them as much as the RCA clear tops

I received my Pavane 12AT7-T Friday. It was smooth right out of the box. Much better that the JJ ECC81 which I had already swapped out for the stock tube that came with my kit. It was initially better than the stock but not a night and day difference. I now have about 50 hours on it and clarity and dynamics seems to be it's strongsuits. I decided to run my bass amp from the high level signal from the Stereomour and take my Dodd buffer out of the loop using only the digital volume control in MPD. This was quite a bit better, better clarity for certain, less dark, thick in the mids. Well, I ended up selling my buffer, don't get me wrong, I love the Dodd buffer and likely will use another as I believe that the Alps pot is the bottleneck in the buffer.
What is on the immediate horizon is a LDR volume control and probably an in-line Dodd buffer, but first I will run the LDR by itself. I am considering building it right into my Bottlehead chassis, towards the front. I believe heat will be minimal there which is a consideration for the LDR units. More once I have more time on it.

Ed,
That tube sounds really promising! Clarity and dynamics are good things. Post up after about 100 hours with a follow up, please, unless you think it has the character it will end up with already...
I was just using a custom optocoupler last week...you know the one that was traveling with the Road SPUD...I was very impressed with the sound quality (or lack of quality....there was lots of nothingness and it sounded great). I think you will be very happy with the LDR...and please post your thoughts, of course!

I now have 130 hrs on the Pavane. It stands heads and shoulders over the JJ ECC81. It is also better than the stock tube although by a lesser margin. It seems to have improved everything across the board, as I mentioned before I feel overall clarity and dynamics were improved over the other 2 tubes I have tried in the amp. Keep in mind I have only heard two other driver tubes in this amp but if I were in the market for a 12AT7 upgrade this tube would be on my short list.

I recently upraded to a Pavane 12AT7 tube. I love it! Much more dynamic! I seemed to have lost some of my lows though. I'm thinking i'll upgrade to bigger caps and see if that makes a difference.

I now have a couple hundred hour on my psvane 12au7's. My system has never sounded so good. I am very happy with them. They are well worth the price

well then save yourself the stress of not doing so :)
It was a bit of a leap of faith when I ordered my full set of 6 tubes for P/P EL84 and pair of outputs for EL34 SE, ( but then so was my first BH kit around 10yrs ago) - and neither of these current amps sounded as good before.
