Title: Every time I come here ...
Post by: Laudanum on November 08, 2011, 09:07:54 AM
I see that third link down in the Google search results and just scratch my head, figuratively that is.
I dont do the quick link from favorites thing to get here.  I just open my home page, type in "B" in the Google search bar and because this site is in my history, "Bottlehead" pops up, I click, Bottlehead website is the first among the results, one more click on the forum link and here I am.

But for whatever reason, the 3rd link down on that same search results page is always the website of that guy who apparently has never heard of point to point wiring.  To make matters worse, for all his whining and crying, the wiring job that he did on his PCB based kit that he claims to be so much neater and easier is pretty darn ugly/sloppy.  Which I guess explains how he would be boggled by the point to point.

For some reason, I thought the search results were based on relevance.  If that's the case, why that site is 3rd in the results of a Bottlehead search I have no idea.

Thinking about this post now, I wonder how many are going to have any idea what Im banging on about.  If you indeed dont have any idea, nevermind, it's not you, it's not important and Im not totally sane anyway.  :-)

You aren't paranoid enough....you know that the internet knows your habits more than you do.  THAT should scare you just a bit...

Big Brother is watching....

I tried the Google search to get here.  I got a list of Bottlehead products and pages on the forum.  What you get must be a page you have visited before.

Big brother has been watching for a long time, they are just watching closer and closer now.   But that said, it shouldnt have anything to do with that site being among the top search results.   I just did a clean install of Windows 7 two weeks ago.  I have visited that page before, obviously.  But not since the clean install and the reason why I visited it in the first place was because it was on the first page of search results (third result to be exact) when typing  "Bottlehead" into the Google search bar on my Google toolbar  :-)
That page doesnt seem relevant enough to "Bottlehead" that it should be 3rd in the results.  Regardless, I think it is entertaining in a 'doh' kinda way and I was bored so I posted this as one of those mostly pointless, mostly rhetorical head scratchers.

hell!!! lets name that site-davids audio--he wines a bit but he does say they sound good-the bottleheads that is-so we will give him that-since he does not like point to point it leaves more for us----howie

It has to do with Google's magic formula for ranking searches.  The web page in question has Bottlehead as one of its key words, is probably linked to by other sites, and has a lot of text demonstrating that mastery of one discipline doesn't necessarily carry over to others. Though I really expected him to be a little more centered considering his studies.

Ok, cats out of the bag.   I was thinking that, from looking at the not so pretty wiring job of the big PCB based mono blocks, it was no wonder that point to point was such a "challenge" for him.  Looking at it, lots of small ga. wire and not super easy to make nice and tidy, but not much effort made to do so either from the looks of it.  I've no problem with people preferring other things but there is some criticism expressed and it seemed to me to be more a matter of his own lack of skill in assembling a point to point kit rather than anything universally tangible, as he seems to infer.   But again, Im amused by it more than anything.

Googles magic formula for relevance is still baffling.

Hey, the guy is entitled to his opinion. The community (that's you guys!) have been so amazingly supportive of us over the years that one or two negative posts on the web hardly seem worth fussing over. Perhaps we can look at that site as something to inspire us take our time and work to achieve the neatest construction we can.

I have built two Bottlehead kits, Seduction and Quickie. Both had complete parts count and both worked the first time I plugged them in.

Looking at David's pics of his Seduction built I hope he has never been anybodies surgeon...or dentist...or  plumber...or barber.

OMG, you do not want to go within six miles of our 18 yo cat's litterbox. Imagine what the zombies in the movies would smell like and multiply it by 11. Eileen probably goes thru about half  ton of cat litter a week trying to keep up with the yowling old bastard, who eats like three cans of food a day but only weighs about 4 lbs. Once in a while I come downstairs from our bedroom and as I hit the third or fourth step from the downstairs hallway this stunning funk washes over me and I swoon through the hallway trying to stay conscious long enough to find a door to open. I should bottle the stuff and sell it to the DoD as a WMD. I wouldn't let that cat in our shop for anything. We would have to burn it to the ground after he was done with it.

Heck I can solder a micro-BGA with a 1 watt solder pistol, howl at the moon and still not see the balls.
Dang full moon tomorrow at 3:16 PM EST. I'll have to howl on faith.
Building a ugly looking physical circuit in 3D can be good - just look at any old-school RF engineer's proto-type.

Did you notice that he uses the Foreplay preamp with his transcendent system.  He must like the Bottlehead gear a little better than he rants on.

Doc, we had a cat just like that.  Had to bury the miserable little wretch a few years ago.  Now we have two Tabby monsters (20 pounds and 13 pounds).

Eh, his opinions aren't that bad.  He just had trouble with assembly.  Not all of us paint with oil, some have to follow the numbers.  Nothing wrong with that.

Personally I'd rather work with discrete elements than PCB's, and I didn't find anything too small or particularly challenging to assemble.  Then again I am the type who will go in a change or add a couple of things, either to see if it makes it sound better, or just because.  (Try that with an all PCB layout!)

As for performance, the proof's in the pudding.

The google search inventory thing is very interesting..... My google little helper  overseas must not have a very good memory or is trying to imply something about me that is completely wrong... When I start typing BOTTLEHEAD in google chrome, before I even finish, its number 1 choice for me that always pops up is BOTTLESMOKER!!!!!  I kid you not..... haha  I just laugh and always think , uhhh just what the hell is google trying to say about me..... NEVER searched nor purchased the stuff in my life!  haha

Ok, I found it.  The FP 2 is a beautiful build.  He misses the point of the tight signal path.  If my fingers were any shorter or fatter I couldn't build a BH kit either.  The Transcendent is easy looking in comparison.  But I have seen one of their manuals.  Not up to Dan's standards.  Neither does he mention the sound of the two only that assembly was hard.

To each his own.  We probably should lock this thread but before that happens...

My cat, only 12 years old, has two litter boxes, one in the listening room where she spends the night and one in my work room where she spends most of the day sitting on my GainClone (always on and warm) watching the bird feeders in the back yard.

I can't get away from the litter boxes!  Febreez for pets helps.  I don't want anyone to enter my house and say I have a cat.

We all know better otherwise we wouldnt be here.

I still think he's erk'd because the Bottlehead cat scratched in the guys litter box ... in fact Im convinced of it after readings Doc's cat commentary.  :-D

I saw that site a while back and justfigured it was one guy's opinion and that he kinds of temporal/spatial skills needed to deal with a BH kit, even though most of them aren't overly challenging in that regard.  Heis also talking about the paramour I, wwhich is somewhat of 10 pounds of potatos in a 5 pound baag ayway.

Hey, you guys with cats should get a Litter Robot -- the only automatic cat box that actually works.  I've been trough all the others, and a couple of some of them, but the litter robot has otlasted them all by quite a bit now, is bullet proof and super easy to use/keep clean.  Looks like a giant space helmet, but none of the kids have ever cared about that.

hey doc,

Are you giving him wet cat food?  I had a big orange tabby that my roommates and I used to treat with the occaisional can of wet cat food, mainly because it was such a blast to watch him eat it... but that is where the fun stopped.  His rancid ass would make you tear up if you were within nose-shot, and the "consistency" of his aim went way down. (with regards to the litter box)

Eventually I had to just stick with dry food.

Yeah he gets wet food. I don't feed the animals, that's my small protest against the zoo that is our house. If fed him he'd get dry food alright - Decon.

Yea -- but it's kind of fun.
One of our cats (I don't feed them either Doc) did bring a squirrel in the house the other day.
Had to tell him, he had to pick up the slack getting the acorns out of the yard.
I do feed the dog though.

The "BULLET PROOF" litter robot would be a very important feature for the cat when he/she decides and then gets caught scaling up the "Matterhorn" for cats..... Tall electrostatic speakers..... I have 3 pair myself but no cats.. however, I have seen the aforementioned with my own eyes and horror at a friends place, I might add... I still have the occasional nightmare thinking about it...... :)
