Title: Speedball goof-up!
Post by: jrihs on November 22, 2011, 01:09:09 PM
Well, I was almost done and I goofed. I hooked the red wire from 2U to the left G pad instead of the B+.  Turned it on and SMOKE billowed out! Well more like wafted out...I quickly found and corrected my error. All Tubes and LED's glow now but I've got issues...

Voltage check is normal EXCEPT:
 terminal 19 standard is 0, measured 93
 terminal 20 standard is 206, measures 0

Nothing was registered at the headphone jack.

The resistor that runs from 13-20 (my mills :-() has some black on it.

Questions:
What else is probably fried?
Is the above resistor the one everyone seems to be replacing with a choke? if so I'll just order one...

Please help!

You are probably OK.

In terms of the toasted resistor, if you connected 2U to ground instead of where it was to supply high voltage at the B+ pad, the circuit ahead of that point was shorted to ground. So resistors in the supply path ahead of that point (ahead meaning going back to the power supply) may have been pushed beyond their power rating. The best bet is to measure that resistor to make sure it's value has not changed.

Nothing at the headphone jack - no sound, or not voltage?

no voltage. I have not checked the sound. OK to plug in headphones? I have the stock resistor, should I replace?

hey man...I HAVE SOUND! I know I tried voltage on several of the jack connectors (except the ground). Think I'll go listen...
