Title: BCP-15 flavors
Post by: elcraigo on January 11, 2012, 11:17:55 AM
Suddenly dawned on me: I have the BCP-15's that came with the Paramour I upgrade iron kit install in a converted Paramour I SR45 (yes power transformer was changed)
Are these BCP-15s the 50 mA / 40 H flavor?

I did just get some more BCP-15s, the 40 mA / 50 H flavor. Along with some other nice iron from Mike.
Is it a good idea to swap the BCP-15s out, and put the 50 H in? If I remember the 50 H are better for 45s?

Yes, more inductance is always better in a plate choke.

I made a preamp, many years ago, with switchable inductors - four different values. I forget the numbers but the two biggest steps were only 10% different, and it was still audible.

For perfectly comparable performance, you would increase the parafeed capacitor in proportion, i.e. by 25%. However, that might not make as much difference. The parafeed cap value is kind of a tradeoff over the reasonable range.
