Title: Speedball transistors
Post by: xcortes on February 02, 2012, 11:13:10 AM
Why does the CF C4S on the Speedball upgrade use different transistors than the "regular"? Just when I though I understood how to design a C4S you throw a curve ball!

Hello Xavier,

The TIP50 is essentially an MJE-340 that is just a little bit beefier.  Also, the larger size of the case helps to get rid of the heat more efficiently.

Hi Paul,

That's what I figured. More so since the values of resistors seemed to behave identically.

But I thought I'd rather ask.

On to building my modified Crack to drive my 800 ohm speakers then.

Thanks!

I'm totally excited to see the results of your project.  This has been one of those things that has been discussed quite often, but never followed through.
