Title: S.E.X. advise needed
Post by: Raintown Buffoon on February 28, 2012, 07:22:18 AM
Greetings purveyors of immense electrical wisdom,

I took a trip to Bottlehead HQ Friday to pay homage to the queen and procure a S.E.X. amp. Dan & Eileen were gracious and very patient in answering my questions and showing me the inner sanctum at Bottlehead. Being satisfied, I laid out the appropriate beads and shells for my S.E.X. and sailed for the mainland. This being my 1st build, I wanted to nudge my way into the forum where knowledge flows like the proverbial milk and honey. Without further dribble, here we go...

I own a wonderful VPI/Manley/Magnepan system and will be using the S.E.X. strictly as a headphone amp with my LCD 2

Hey Steve,

It was a pleasure having you come visit last week. I applaud the way you have studied up and covered all the bases before you start your build.
You can indeed add a pair of three pin or a four pin XLR jack somewhere if you and PB can figure out where to squeeze it in.

I think the rec out on the Manley should be happy. The input impedance of the S.E.X. is 100K ohms and thus it shouldn't be too heavy a load for the circuit. What you want to do is connect the S.E.X. and then listen to the main system to see if the source and the preamp are happy driving both amps.

Raintown,

I have to ask, you are in Portland, right?  The moist city.

anywhere within comfortable driving distance of Casa Schmalle (except perhaps Sequim) that isn't "mostly moist"?  - it is called the Pacific North Wet for a reason

Actually it only rains twice a year. We created the facade to keep the population in check.

Ok, but the rain storms last 5 months each.
