Title: psvane
Post by: tuffy_puppy on May 09, 2012, 11:23:28 AM
howdy all,  my extended foreplay 3 is the type that uses three 12au7 tubes.  the regulator tube seems to be no longer the center tube.  anyway my question is this:  does anyone have an opinion/judgment about the 12au7 tubes put out by a chinese company called psvane?  the hype is somewhat catchy.  the price is $100 per pair with free shipping.  this is $10 per unit more than i have paid in the past for rca cleartops.  any info would be gratefully received, thanks, don

I am using them in my Extended Foreplay 3.  They are by far the best sounding 12au7's I have tried.  I too had RCA clear tops before the Psvane's.
I feel the Psvane 12au7's are well worht the price

I am just on the second week of my new Psvane 12AU7 tubes in the Foreplay and they are by far the best I have heard in a while. Well worth paying for the premium matched pair.

Cheers

I've had a pair of the Pvanes in my FPIII for a few months now, and was very pleased with them. I recently did the Extended upgrade, and since then, they have become noisy and microphonic. One has a pronounced hiss associated with it. I've switched back to cleartops and all is quiet. Is this coincidental or somehow related to the upgrade? All my voltages were within spec when I completed the build.

Thanks,
Mike

Mine were never noisy.

I recently converted my Extended FP3 to use 6sn7's.  A nice hange overall smoother sounding.  Using Shuguang treasure tubes

The extended upgrade increases the gain of the circuit a bit. So what probably happened is that the noise floor of the tubes was amplified a bit more than it had been without the upgrade, thus making the noise more noticeable when music is not playing. Putting in different tubes verified that it's the tubes and not the upgrade that is creating the noise - unless the gain seems much lower with the cleartops than it does with the Psvane. You might try using the cleartops on the outboard positions and the Psvane in the center position and vice versa to see if the noise is more obvious wit the Psvanes in the preamp stages or the regulator stage.

Does anyone know how to pronounce Psvane?

No no no, it's spelled, "Raymond Luxury Yacht," but it's pronounced, "Throat Warbler Mangrove"

It is pronounced Pavane.  Spelling probably got screwed up in some chinese translation

So it really is like Raymond Luxury Yacht. No sooner did I post here than I got a spam for the new Shuguang Nature Sound line, which seems to be a similar idea. I wonder if Nature Sound is pronounced "Nsture Psound".

LOL

Nature Sound probably got messed up in translation also and should have be Natural Sound.
Though I do like Nsture Psound better

Don't know where the Nature sound line fits in Shuguangs spectrum.  It seems to be priced close to their psvane line

Not audio related but "new", talented, young actress on the scene ... Saoirse Ronan  (The Lovely Bones, Atonement, The Way Back, Hanna) .  Saoirse = Seer-shuh  ... It's Irish.  Im usually better than average at pronunciation but forget about that one, I cant even remember it.   Some new audio company ought to use it,  debating and/or asking for proper pronunciation on the forums = free advertising/publicity.   ;)

Really!  Audio reviews should include a pronunciation guide.  And then there are folks who just always mispronounce a word.  I bought one of the first Honda Accords, first year.  The salesman always said "A-Card."  I bought a pair of Recaro seats, the distributor said "Re-kare-o" so I called the factory.  The telephone operator said "Re-Car-O."  That is what I had been saying.

Slap! ! !  Ok, I will get off of my soap box now.

Doc, it would seem natural to get 'spam' after quoting Monty Python.
