Title: Goldpoint smd attenuator
Post by: John Roman on June 21, 2012, 07:35:40 AM
After having installed a pair of Goldpoint attenuators in my extended foreplay 3 I've become disappointed in the sonic change. Flat out the sweetest whispers were better. I'm thinking about removing the smd nichchrome and installing some vishay dales. It looks possible. Getting all those surface mount resistors removed may be a chore. Anyone ever tried this? worth doing or not? Might just end up selling the smd's and and just buying the other attenuators from goldpoint, probably a better idea? Thoughts?
Thanks,
John

Just sell the SMD attenuators and buy the unpopulated switches for leaded resistors. SMDs are a PITA to remove and you might damage them. I've been battling a Tek scope full of SMDs and it's barely worth it.

Thanks Doc,
I was moving that direction, just needed a little shove.

Elma makes one, it's very easy to work with:
