Title: Doc, do you recognize this PS?

They fit perfectly in Paramount chassises. Look very cool with the rest of my BH gear. I even recycled some big studs.

One down one to go.

Nice! There is a nice little stash of tubes on the way for the part at the other end of that cable...

Thanks Doc. The second is done now. One hazard less.

No Tom. Just put the power supplies in nice BH chassis plates and bases. But that was the first step. I'll definitely get the transformers out of the way (someday).

Jim, these are Doc's tubeized Ionovacs. They don't go very loud but I'm crossing them over at 7kHz and that helps. Still I think a higher order xo is not a bad idea.

I put Doc's (breadboarded PSs) in Paramount housings and they look great.

I don't know what caused the urge to enclose them but I suppose it has to do with protecting my kids from the exposed HVs.

Last week I experienced a 400v+ from my Paramounts. Don't ask. I'm 100 percent to blame. I'm now officially an Ouch casualty. If I'm ever condemned to death please either chop my head off or hang me. But please no electrocution.

Xavier and I did a little trading a while back, and his end of the deal was one Ionovac and one Ionophane - the essentially identical UK equivalent to the Ionovac. They each had widowmaker power supplies that were composed of very different parts including and crappy little input transformers. So I built a matching power supply for each one, from a couple of nice surplus power transformers, a couple of potato masher 5R4s and 0D3s, and some Speco transformers for input. The Specos are flat to something like 35khz and the tweeters fall apart below about 3500Hz so the little trannies are quite suitable. Xavier is right that the one shortcoming of the tweeters is that they can't play super loud. I have sent him some 6146s to revise the stock 6DQ6 modulator circuit with. They are supposed to help them to play a little louder.

Xavier, sorry about the zap -- yes, it's not fun at all.  Someday I'd love to come to Mexico and see all your gear, projects, and most of all, have a listen (and meet your family as well.)  Unfortunately, I don't travel well anymore so it's not likely to happen.

Just wondering.  Is the limitation on the volume the transducer itself or the step up transformer?

Jim, we have a guests room waiting. I'm trying to convince Doc and Eileen to visit.

Grainger, the transformer is not the limitation. I'm not really sure if it's the oscillator tube (Doc belongs to this school of thought) or actually the flame breaking up at certain levels.
