Help... I am a newbie in the world of building tube amps... I purchased and built this version of SEX in 2009, no mods, the basic kit sold at that time... It is the one,and only tube amp that I have built, and was very proud that it not only worked, but the sound was amazing coming out of my Sennheisers.... Well, I just fired up my amp this morning, after several months of inactivity, and while the tubes light up, with a warm glow, when I listen to my cd through the headphones, sound is muted... I noticed that while the tubes are warm/hot to the touch...nothing else is...in the past I re-called that the plate would get warm to the touch as would the transformer...this was the basic SEX kit with no modifications sold in 2009...what are your thoughts that I should be concentrating on to troubleshoot and resolve...
Thanks in advance,
Pat

Hello Pat,
The best place to start would be to dig out the manual and check resistances/voltages.
Are you getting the same muted sound on both channels?
Let us know about resistances and voltages, and I'm sure we can direct you appropriately.

The first thing i would check is your diode solder connections. The only reason i say this is that is what happened to me. It was my first build too and i probably didnt give the diodes enough heat and solder as their leads are thicker than anything else in the kit.
