Title: Something wrong with the PCBs?
Post by: JP on December 14, 2012, 03:17:32 PM
All,

I was looking at the shunt regulated active load PC boards that I received, and they look a bit different.

I'm not a HW person but passed the photos listed below by a few people at the office and the feedback was that if it's copper, then I can just clean it off with alcohol and it should be fine.  If it's gold plated, then they were suggesting that there would still be good copper underneath and scrubbing them a bit would work, or request a replacement.  Are these gold or copper plated?

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks!

I don't think I would scrub them with anything, will the lands take solder?  Probably best thing is replacement, mine did not look like that.

The bad one looks bad. Don't waste your time trying to make it work. I'm sure you can get it replaced by Bottlehead HQ.

This looks like flux residue, you can remove it with a tooth brush and alcohol if you want, or solder to it and watch it bubble to the surface.

I spoke with Bottlehead HQ and they said it should be fine.  So I've moved forward with my build.
