Title: Jewelbox red wood?

I'm not overly knowledgeable about woodworking. Any suggestions on getting the wood for the crack a Chinese jewelbox red with some depth to it?

Hm, I'm thinking that following these steps for applying stain (http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Finishing/Colors,_stains/a-blueguitar/a-blueguitar_1.html) to a guitar might work well with the alder wood of the crack.

I'm thinking of using the Stewart-MacDonald colortone stain (http://www.stewmac.com/shopby/product/5032) in orange. There are some funky colors available (blue, red, orange, green). The steps are sand wood, apply dye, sand, 2nd coat dye, then 4 coats of sanding sealer with 320 grit sanding between coats. I think I could do that.  :)

I think I oversimplified the steps above. Gloss lacquer needs to be applied at the end as well. Read the article if you're interested.

Another idea for the aluminum top: Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish. I'm not sure if a buffing step would be needed.

Blue dye with a polished aluminum top -- that would be a little different.
