Title: So far....
Post by: KevO on March 30, 2013, 05:26:32 PM
Greetings,

Almost done with BeePre. Suffering a self inflicted slow down.

I have some large caps to fit under the hood. I realized it will leave me in a tough spot if I have errors to fix, I will finish assembly with the Daytons first.

Then debug and listen.   Doc says build it stock first. Time to do just that.

Here is the idea to fit the caps in after completion and testing.

Modifying PVC 'T' to be cradle for cap. Plan to JB Weld the PVC to the top plate. Wire tie the caps to the 'cradle'. I will try to perfect the 'cradle' then finish the build with the stock caps.

Once the  PVC goes in, fixing any problems with the attenuator and switch will be real difficult.

The caps will have to sit a bit over the switch and attenuator to miss the heat sinks.

Debra says she is installing the same caps in the future, so I thought we could share ideas.

Kevin,

Nice work!  What are the caps you decided on?  (I see in Deb's post that she went with Clarity)  I only have 2 pair of high $ caps in my system and look at others with hungry eyes now that I'm employed again.

I knew immediately what the cradle was.  Excellent idea!

Wow Kevin, and I thought the Audio Caps were big but those MR's take the cake! You did trial the board on the standoff's first? They come just a hair past the edge of the nylon standoff.

Nice idea for the stand offs! Damn those attenuators are sexy! Its almost too bad they have to live on the bottom of the plate.

The caps are Clarity MR. I should have picked caps that fit physically, but I want to try the MR. Why make it easy ;-)

The standoffs need more work. As is, the caps will hit the heat sinks.

I used a Goldpoint mono attenuators in my last preamp with their SMD resistors. This time I decided to build out a Goldpoint frame. Just 46 resistors to solder.

I used tantalizing, er tantalum resistors where I could and filled the missing values with PRP. Hope it sounds nice.

In for a penny....
